Red Rocks Music Festival, August 28-31, in Phoenix and Sedona!
Concerts in both Phoenix and Sedona – The Red Rocks Music Festival will present two exciting concerts at the Arizona Opera Center in Phoenix on August 28 and 29 and again at the Sedona Creative Life Center, on August 30 and 31.
On August 28 and 30 at 7:30 pm, Festival artists will perform The Magnificent Blend of Voice & Strings. The concert features: Ariana Wyatt, soprano; Adam Margulies, baritone (from the movie The Bohemian); David Ehrlich, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, violins; Rami Solomonow, viola; Jan Simiz, cello and Teresa Ehrlich, piano. Included is work by W.A. Mozart, A. Dvorak, G. Puccini, G. Verdi, C. Gounod, O. Golijov and H.
On August 29 at 7:30 pm and August 31 at 3:00 pm you don’t have to be in Paris to enjoy the great music composed by C. Franck and G. Faure. Instead you can come to

All Festival artists enjoy international acclaim. David Ehrlich, Fine Arts Coordinator Outreach Fellow, served as concertmaster of the Colorado Festival Orchestra, Filarmonica de Caracas, Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra, and for several seasons was acting concertmaster and associate concertmaster, as well as soloist, with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
ARIANA WYATT, Soprano, is a recent graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center. During the 2007-2008 season, Ms. Wyatt performed Micaela in The Tragedy of Carmen for Opera Omaha and was a young artist at the Florida Grand Opera where she covered Leila in Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare. Other recent roles include Serpetta in Mozart’s La Finta Gardiniera, Diana in Offenbach’s Orphèe aux Enfers, and Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Juilliard Opera Center; Flavia in Eliogabalo, Violetta in La Traviata, and Isifile in Cavalli’s Giasone for the Aspen Opera Theater; and Adina in The Elixir of Love for the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Regional Tour.
Adam Margulies, Baritone, was born in Jerusalem and grew up in New York. He has performed and sung internationally from Calcutta to Tel Aviv and through out Europe. He recently returned from a series of recitals in Virginia where he performed in the Musica Viva Chamber Music Festival. He has starred as Marcello in a film production of Puccini’s La Boheme entitled “The Bohemians” and his upcoming engagements include a production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare: A Game of Thrones and workshops in Montreal and in Paris.
Rami Solomonow, violist, moved to the US where he studied with Shmuel Ashkenasi at NIU. From 1974 to 1995 he served as Principal Violist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. In 1995 he left the Opera to become a founding member of the Chicago String Quartet which, was the Quartet in residence at DePaul University and Taos School of Music until 2004. Mr. Solomonow has been a faculty member at DePaul University since 1981 and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous concerts, music festivals and summer music schools in the United States, Israel, Japan and South America.
Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s performances as orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician garner great attention. Gramophone proclaimed Ms. Ngwenyama’s playing as providing “solidly shaped music of bold, mesmerising character,” and the Washington Post described her as playing “with dazzling technique in the virtuoso fast movements and deep expressiveness in the slow movements.” Ms. Ngwenyama’s past seasons include performances with the
Charlotte Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Austin, Jackson and Memphis Symphonies, and appearances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. She also performed with Christopher Seaman and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa, as well as Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Additionally, she “fascinated on viola and violin during recital” (Washington Post) at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D. C. and with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. Ms. Ngwenyama has performed throughout the United States and abroad.
THOMAS LANDSCHOOT, cellist, praised for his expressive and poetic music making, enjoys an international career as a concert and recording artist and pedagogue. He has toured North America, Europe and Asia and has appeared on National Radio and Television worldwide. His solo career started after taking a top prize at the International Cello Competition ŒJeunesse Musicales‚ in 1995 in Bucharest, Romania. He recently performed with the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Frankfurt Chamber Orchestra, Prima la Musica (Belgium), Shieh Chien Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan), Tempe Symphony and the Orchestra of the United States Army Band and has appeared at the Park City, Santa Barbara, Mammoth Lakes, Utah, Red Rock, Waterloo, Killington and Texas Music Festivals. His recordings are available on Summit, Organic, Kokopelli and Centaur Records. Landschoot joined the faculty of Arizona State University in 2001 after having taught at the University of Michigan. He has been awarded the Herberger College of Fine Arts Distinguished Teaching Award (2005) and is on the faculty of Shieh Chien University in Taipei since 2008.
